چکیده

In the present study, a set of physics-informed and data-driven approaches are examined towards development an accurate reduced-order model for turbulent plane Couette flow. Based on utilisation proper orthogonal decomposition (POD), particular focus is given to where number POD modes not large enough cover full dynamics state, situation directly relevant modelling flows. Starting from conventional Galerkin projection approach ignoring truncation error, three enhanced by both physics data examined: (1) sparse regression POD-Galerkin dynamics; (2) with empirical eddy-viscosity model; (3) optimal eddy viscosity obtained newly proposed – idea applying identification nonlinear framework model. The does perform well, as chaotic appears be too small. While unsatisfactory performance observed, approach, which combines concept closure regression, more accurately approximates than other models considered. This demonstrated mean time scales mode amplitudes well first- second-order turbulence statistics.

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

a second order closure model for calculating the turbulence fluxes in atmospheric boundary layer

turbulent fluxes in the atmospheric boundary layer are calculated using different models. one of the most popular and operational models in this groundwork is the second order turbulent model of mellor and yamada that has been widely used to simulate the planetary boundary layer (pbl). despite its popularity, it has been shown that this model has several weeknesses that affect its accuracy. the...

On the Use of Les with a Dynamic Subgrid-scale Model for Optimal Control of Wall Bounded Turbulence

This paper presents techniques for optimal control of turbulent flows based on the dynamic subgrid-scale LES model. This control scheme has been implemented using a finite time-window approach where the flow sensitivity is computed from the adjoint LES equations. LES results for optimal control of terminal turbulent kinetic energy are compared to Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) under similar ...

A numerical study of laterally strained wall-bounded turbulence

Direct numerical simulation (DNS) is used to study the effects of mean lateral divergence and convergence on wall-bounded turbulence, by applying uniform irrotational temporal deformations to a plane-channel domain. This extends a series of studies of similar deformations. Fast and slow straining fields are considered, leading to a matrix of four cases, all corresponding to zero-pressure-gradie...
